New Number Plate Regulations for the Year 2021
From next year, the DVLA will implement new number plate legislation in the United Kingdom. What’s new in the world of number plates?
The technical specifications for the number plate check in the United Kingdom have been updated by the British Standards Institute (BSI). Reflectivity, vibration, impact, temperature and weathering impacts, solvent resistance, bending, and more have all been tested on the plates. As a result, the plates will be more robust and work with ANPR cameras on the road.
Furthermore, different colors of black letters that produce a 3D impression or highlight will be prohibited. Only one shade of black will be allowed for the letters and digits. The use of raised letters for 3D and 4D effects will be prohibited as well.
Recent Changes & Updates for 2021
Drivers of all-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be able to display number plates with a green flash on the left side starting on December 8, 2020. With the new green plates, drivers will be able to take advantage of money-saving incentives for zero-emission vehicles, such as cheaper parking and free access into congestion charge zones. Vehicles that are hybrid or plug-in hybrid are not eligible.
When the United Kingdom departs the European Union on January 1, 2021, UK registered vehicles will no longer be able to display number plates with the GB EU flag. Drivers of vehicles with the GB EU mark will not be required to change it, but they will be required to display an oval GB sticker when driving in Europe.
